Two species of turtle under the same roof?
Sent to Reptile Experts June 29 08:21 PM

I already house a 5" red earred slider; and I''m adopting what I believe to be a mud turtle. I have a 40 gallon set up...Can they be in the same tank together? Are there behavioral issue to beware of?

Hello,

The dietary needs are different for the two turtles. The size of the tank may also be an issue since turtles can be very territorial. The last thing that is worrisome, is that the new addidition will need to be kept quarantined for at least a minium of 30 days and preferably 90 days, because of cross contamination of parastes and illness. The Mud turtles are more aggressive than Sliders, so you will definately need a bigger set up along with a good filtration system and proper diet and UVB for the turtles. Joan
